Treatment Options For Striae Or Stretch Marks

how to get rid of stretch marks

Stretch marks or striae, as they are referred to by dermatologists, are a form of scarring on the skin that are of a different hue, usually lighter, than the surrounding skin. The skin is usually fairly elastic, but when it’s overstretched, the normal production of collagen (the major protein that makes up the connective tissue in your skin) is disrupted, thereby giving rise to scars or stretch marks.

However, if a part of your body grows rapidly over a short period, the fibers can become thin and over-stretched and some of them may break, and thus result to striae. Stretch marks appear when your skin is suddenly stretched just like during the growth spurt in your teenage years, or when you build muscle after months of working out, or as the belly grows to accommodate a growing fetus.

At the outset they look reddish or of purplish hue, but eventually they fade to a much lighter one. They can be seen anywhere on your body, particularly in areas where fats tend to accumulate such as the belly, upper arms, and thighs. Having stretch marks is no reason to be alarmed as they do not affect the skin’s capacity to protect you, however for some people they can be aesthetic issue.

The fact that these striae usually become less noticeable over time is never really a consolation for those who plan to spend most of their spring break at the beach. Fortunately, there are remedies that one can try or do to get rid of stretch marks.

How To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks Fast

Some women report that self-tanners and sunless tanning products can get rid of stretch marks. Body makeup matched to the tone of your skin can make the striae less noticeable. Then again, makeup may not be the best choice if you plan to spend a lot of time in the water, even if it claims to be water-resistant.

A quick search online on how to get rid of stretch marks fast would probably lead you to the use of cocoa butter. The moisturizing abilities of cocoa butter make it a good product to prevent the development of stretch marks. However, with regards to diminishing striae that have formed already, cocoa butter can only do so little.Interestingly, there are also studies that show that they have little or no effect to existing stretch marks. Even though cocoa butter can only do so little for the scars you already have, you can still benefit from using it since it will prevent new stretch marks from forming.

The fact of the matter is, you simply cannot remove stretch marks completely without dermatological intervention. Your skin specialist can give you creams and other skin products that are made primarily for the said skin problem and also give you expert tips on how to get rid of stretch marks.

They may also prescribe microdermabrasion and fractional laser resurfacing to get rid of the scars. These methods unsurprisingly can be expensive since you it would require several visits before you can see results. If you are still in your puberty, these methods are impractical as you are likely to develop these stretch marks since you are still growing up.

Cocoa butter is effective with consecutive using it. There is a result but it takes weeks upon recognizing it. Some instances can’t see the result because of the stretch mark that ends with years.
